Mmmmoooore. Rice.

There's a place I go back to in my mind that makes me smile no matter how heavy my heart is. This place has:

Hadia on my lap, Zaky next to me, Toy Story playing and me with a bowl of rice and kebab alternately feeding them while answering every now and then, "yeah! Buzz! Buzz! Woooooooody"

Hadia's eyes would be glued to the screen, and she would mutter "Mmmmooore. Rice." Zaky (who never eats meat and only likes oatmeal and waffles) proudly points to his mouth and says, "I eat meat. I eat meat"

The movie finishes and I hold Hadia until she falls asleep. Her falling asleep is easy. Getting her to stay asleep when you put her in her crib is HARD. But I do this, half dropping her lower part of the body because my arms are shorter than the height of the crib bars (cringe!). She tosses and turns and I pat her to sleep with quiet frenzy. Then success! Her eyes still closed, her mouth moves in that way that you know someone is watching their dreams and they're floating far far away from you.
Success! I run downstairs to proudly tell Sarah.

Sarah then asks, where's Zaky? And indeed, where is Zaky. I go back to the stairs, and there he was, lying on his belly with some toys around him at the middle landing of the stairs. His face looked so sad. I asked, what's wrong Zaky? (this is the boy who slides down the stairs on his belly on regular basis.)the stairs are carpeted by the way.)

"Imma tired." he replied quietly (he speaks with an Italian accent). I picked him up and carried him to his room and put him on his huge queen sized bed and laid down next to him and patted his leg (like my grandma used to do to us, only she'd end up falling asleep first). I remember thinking, gosh he's so awake. But he was so quiet. I wonder what was in his mind.

Hadia trying to climb onto my lap (before going back down). She does this every now and then and uses me as a slide.

Zaky looking anxiously at a cane (pronounce: kan-yeh) and reassuring us both that the cane is a good cane (he's scared of dogs but likes liones)
